The Nebulab Newsletter

Hey there, this is Alessandro from Nebulab, announcing the very first issue of the Nebulab newsletter

Twice a month, we’ll be sending you a curated selection of the best reads and talks from the eCommerce industry. We’ll talk about trends, technologies, DTC, and marketing, plus any events and initiatives we’re planning.

Our goal is to help you make more informed decisions with a fraction of the effort (and to sound smart in meetings, of course)

With that intro out of the way, let’s get started!

Product Vision: Refining & Aligning a Compelling Northstar

January 10, 2023 @ 9am-10am PST

In January, we will be hosting a talk on product vision, given by Patti Chan. Patti will talk about how to build and refine your product vision and how to align your team behind it:

"Most organizations have a company vision. Does yours have a compelling product vision? Can everyone from engineering to sales recite what it is? A compelling product vision unites roadmaps before they're drawn, makes strategic decisions 5x easier, and inspires. No one told me when my product vision sucked, but I learned to notice it in team morale, engineering velocity, and even customer engagement metrics over time. In this hour, I'll show how we evolved the product vision at Imperfect Foods during our hyper-growth from early-stage to half-billion revenue in three years."

There's still plenty of time to sign up: if you want to attend, click the button below to add the talk to your calendar!

What we're reading

New Paths to Success

Most of our reads today are about the impending death of social media marketing and the slow but systematic transition of brands to more promising channels of brand awareness, customer acquisition and product distribution.

🔐 At Meta's Expense. Apple's aggressive privacy policies hit Meta where it hurts the most, and they're most likely not stopping. Now, Meta needs to seriously reconsider how to stay relevant, all while continuing to pursue its metaverse ambitions.

Analysing the potential of metaverse land and real estate. On that note, the metaverse today is somewhere in between the Trough of Disillusionment and the Slope of Enlightenment. Can Meta (and everyone else who's giving it a shot) get on the other side quickly enough?

CTV will be the savior for DTC brands in 2023. With traditional channels becoming ever harder to sustain, brands are experimenting with a more diversified distribution mix that also includes CTV and OTT.

Why DTC brands are pivoting from Facebook to Amazon for customer acquisition after years of avoiding the world's largest e-commerce marketplace. Plus, what to keep in mind if you want to move away from the safe harbor of first-party data and experiment with the world's largest shopping mall.

Shopify Tests Universal Search. Shopify is testing a new "universal search" feature as part of a limited experiment in their Shop app—but they have no plans to become a marketplace, they say. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's it for our first issue—hopefully you liked it!
